Well T Boone is running out and telling congress that we need to resolve our energy crisis.
If you listen to his adds on teh radio you know he is engaged in an all out offensive on this issue.
Well kudos to him.
He is right to suggest that we are in a crises and we need to resolve it. The success of any industrialized society relies on the accessibility of cheap and abundant energy. This notion that we can sustain paying 4-5$ a gallon of gas and rising (not to mention the oteghr increasing costs like heating and cooling electricity and natural gas etc.) is absurd. We will bury our economy if we continue down this route. We will end up in a depression and people can kiss their jobs goodbye their homes goodbye and all the rest of it. I wonder how much the average joe will care about Al Gore's hysterics abotu the planet having a fever when they have no home no job and no prospects for either. Kids hungry or recycling..hmm wonder what your priority will be.
Life when broken doewn to its fundamental parts is to quote Thomas Hobbes "solitary, poor, nasty, bruttish and short" It is only the luxury of plenty that allows our society to even contemplate such inantities as wheter or not a coal fired power plant is good for the environment. ONce people dont have homes Im guessing a lump of coal to keep warm wont elictae the response "well I shouldnt keep my baby warm because this coal will emite co2 into the atmosphere. When we have broken our economy and destroyed our way of life with this suicidal nonsense we can at least take comfort that we wont be listening to the environmental lunatics anymore.
However where I disagree with T Boone is this absurd notion of wind power. Im guessing he is pushing it for financial gain (being heavily invested in wind power certain doesnt hurt his position if we engae in a national plan to build a massive wind farm. However wind power is a canard..any sustainable power source that relies on the weather to be predictable is an absurdity.
Note this article. Basically In Texas where they make more use of wind power than in any other state they experience power blackouts when ::GASP:: the wind died. So is that what we want then...T Boone suggests that 20 percent of the nations power can be covered through wind...we really want to have a sudden loss of 20 percent of our nations consumable energy because of a freak calm in the weather. I dont think so.
I am with most people..I am all for us finding some kind of sustainable renewable energy supply. But right now there isnt a reliable one oustide of petroleum, coal and nuclear. Eventually we will get there..and I would definately like to seeus moving more and more in this direction but I want us to move their in responsible meaningful market driven steps that make use of the abundant energy source we have now whle research new and better alternatives. Right now though they dont exist and pushing us out of the petroleum bed before we find a replacement is just suicide.
